Many potholes seemed to appear out of the blue, but David took the matter into his own hands and fixed them for years, given that no one cared or did anything to fix it. He was worried that there might be an accident and somebody would get hurt. Not everybody is like David, unfortunately, and his neighbors had different plans for them.

His neighbors tried to change the gravel to the asphalt, and David refused. No one was willing to pay for the money needed to do that. This was the reason for the battles between the two sides, a struggle that had gone back generations. Even the daughter of David said she couldn’t remember a time when there was no fighting between them, and she said, “Everybody here is a complete nutjob.”
