Golf might not be the most popular sport out there, but it is still worth checking out. A lot of young people think it is dull, although we think that you might change your mind after learning more about Paige Spiranac. This gorgeous golfer is truly a sight for sore eyes.
Paige Spiranac has been playing golf since she was a young girl. We doubt that anyone was surprised when they found out that she got to play it while she was going to San Diego State University.
When she was attending that school, she brought home the All-Mountain West Conference title from 2012 until 2014. Aside from that, she also helped the San Diego State University Aztecs win their first Mountain West Conference title in the sport.
She gained a lot of attention when she began to post trick shot clips on her Instagram profile. However, she has since gotten an even bigger audience! Yes, this means that she is also a social media personality.
We are not joking when we say that you really missing out if you have not yet clicked the ‘Follow’ button found on her Instagram page. This is a good idea if you want to see more of her and get golf tips.
Right now, she has a lot of followers on her Instagram page. Can you guess how many people have clicked the ‘follow’ button on her account? The answer would be 2 million! Pretty impressive, am I right?
Paige Spiranac hails from a family of Croatian descent. She was born on March 26, 1993. Even though she was born in Wheat Ridge, the family ended up moving to Monument, another town in Colorado.
It was in Monument that she started training as a gymnast when she was young. Back then, she hoped to be a part of the Olympic team. She even skipped level 6 and was invited to train at the Karolyi Ranch.
At the age of 12, something happened to derail her goal of competing in the Olympics. She broke her kneecap twice! No doubt, it must not have been easy to hear the news after having trained so much.
Something else made her decide to quit gymnastics, however. Isn’t it terrible to hear that Paige was the target of bullies when she was pursuing her dreams? We are sad to hear that she had to go through this.
These were the events that led Paige to pursue golf instead at the age of 12. Her previous experience as an athlete made her appreciate the isolation of the new sport. It is a relief that things worked out well.
Back then, young Paige Spiranac had been spending her time in Scottsdale, Arizona and Monument, Colorado. Not only that, but she was also homeschooled since it gave her the time she needed to train.
When she was just kicking off her golf career, she was able to win 5 titles in the Colorado junior golf circuit. Among others, she won the 2010 Connecticut Women’s Golf Association Junior Stroke Playback.
You already know that Paige Spiranac played golf for San Diego State University. However, she went to one more school as well. She snagged a scholarship at the University of Arizona thanks to her resume!
When she was a freshman, Paige only got to play in 3 events for the Arizona Wildcats. This was during the 2011-2012 season. She was able to reach her best score of 73 that year two times.
Change Of Environment
She decided to go to San Diego State University after she finished her first year. She came to this decision because she craved a change of environment. Luckily, this ended up being the right thing to do.
The student-athlete saw even more success during the 2012-2013 season. She obtained First-Team All-Mountain West honors, sixth-place Mountain West Championship honors, fifth-place Cal Classic honors, and a 19th finish during the NCAA Central Regional Championships. Great job, Paige!
But how did she fare when she was a junior at last? This ended up being a good year for this talented golfer. During the 2013-2014 season, she was able to achieve Second-Team All-Mountain West Honors.
A Bright Future
Not only that, but she also fetched a top ten finish at the Mountain West Championship. This is not at all bad for someone new to this field. It was clear that things were only about to get better for Paige.
With A Bang
How impressive is it to learn that Paige Spiranac managed to end her college career on a high note? During her final college season, San Diego State University Aztecs managed to snag its first Mountain West Conference Championship title!
All of us would be proud to make history in the same way that she did. Let us hear what Paige Spiranac thinks about it! According to her, that was “one of the absolute happiest moments of my life.”
CWGA Match Play Championship
In July 2015, the Colorado Golf Association had its 100th Colorado Women’s Golf Association Match Play Championship. It happened At Raccoon Creek Golf Course. Let us now see how Paige did when she entered this competition.
Paige Spiranac managed to deliver a finish with 9 holes under par during her 35-hole title match against Brittany Fan of the University of Colorado Boulder. She managed to secure a win this way. Nice job!
In 2015, she suddenly received a huge amount of attention. It turned out that this happened because a Total Frat Move article encouraged users to check out the golfer. Two days after that, her Instagram followers blew up from under 10,000 to 100,000!
Paige Spiranac became a pro golf player in 2016. When she participated in the CoBank Colorado Women’s Open, she ended up at 9th place at one-under-par. This honor was a prize in itself already, but she also brought home $1,750 for it!
Right now, she only has a single win to her name. She won her first and sole win (so far!) at the Scottsdale’s Orange Tree Country Club. You should really keep your eyes peeled for this young woman. We are certain that she will go on to achieve amazing things in the future.
The Man In Her Life
Paige met Steven Tinoco, her fiancé when he ran across her and requested to take a photo together. The day after that, he sent her an Instagram message and asked her out on a date! He is a personal trainer and a minor-league baseball player. They now live with each other in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Put A Ring On It
After their first date together, Paige already knew that he was the one for her. She adored that he got her flowers and opened the door for her. Steven was a true gentleman! After dating each other for a couple of weeks, he popped the question when they were in Dubai.
A Swing At Tennis
When she did not succeed in gymnastics, she gave tennis a shot as well. She had a pro tennis player for an aunt, who coached Paige in a professional manner. However, the young girl thought that it was dull and wanted to try another sport.
Ronda Rousey Is Her Idol
Who does Paige look up to? Her idol is not a golfer, although she is another athlete. It is none other than Ronda Rousey. The MMA artist is the role model of this golf player. She does not only like to call Rousey “superwoman,” but also says that she wants to follow in the footsteps of the judoka-turned-wrestler.
There was a time when Paige was at a Dubai golf tournament. Things did not go as planned. Paige looked at her smartphone during swings, which did not go unnoticed by the judges. They then docked a few points from her score, which was why she failed to qualify for the following round.
Aside from Instagram, she uses Twitter as well. Recently, she posted a funny tweet. It read, “Idk if you heard but I have a podcast. A golf podcast from a girl who’s known for only showing cleavage on the gram…it’s an uphill battle. So yeah please listen. I’d very much appreciate that!”
We also love the fact that she is crazy about dogs. On her Instagram page, you will find a bunch of photos captioned “Puppy Love.” Apparently, she and her pet have been together since he was a pup!
She Received Death Threats
A couple of years ago, she started to get anonymous text messages and phone calls. These people bashed her for her clothes. Apparently, they were telling her to kill herself for her “tight, cleavage-baring outfits.” Paige recounted, “I was harassed, my family embarrassed.”
It might come as a surprise, but she is not fond of the camera. Paige Spiranac launched a YouTube channel of her own to conquer her fear and share her thoughts on a public platform. She likes to teach people about golf, but she did not have enough confidence to do this in the past.
She has a big following on social media, so she tries to use it for the greater good. She is involved in anti-bullying groups like CyberSmile. She talks about her low self-esteem and experience with bullying. She openly talks about her past experience in the hopes that she could help someone out there.
Golf Digest Contract
Golf Digest offered her a contract, but it was not only for her golfing skills. They did not really care if she had yet to win an LPGA tournament. Her looks were the reason she was hired. Her outfits would bring a ton of traffic to the website, so they gave her a deal.
She’s Been Proposed To Before
Even though she is now engaged, it has not stopped her fans. She continues to get gifts and messages from her fans on Instagram. Most of them are men. Paige has even gotten proposals from them!
She’s Friends With Tiger Woods
Even though she is not the best one in the field yet, she has met and trained with bigshot golfers. There was a time when she learned chipping tricks from Tiger Woods. She once posted their photo with this caption: “Today I met Tiger Woods and he gave me a chipping lesson. So basically, my life is complete.”
Don’t Expect A Wedding Anytime Soon
Paige has expressed that she is not planning to tie the knot in the near future. She got engaged to Steven in 2016. It is now 2020, but they have not yet exchanged vows yet. The golfer does not post about her fiancé online as they like to keep things on the down-low.
An Athletic Family
The Spiranac family is an athletic clan, so it was a given that she was going to take the same path. Her dad played football for the University of Pittsburgh and even brought home an NCAA title. Her mom, on the other hand, was a professional ballerina. Lexie, her older sister, used to sprint at Stanford University.
She Faced Many Medical Issues
When she was still young, she suffered a number of medical problems. She had a hair issue, allergies, and severe asthma. Those issues did not just hinder her progress but also made her a target for bullies.
Some Aren’t On Board
Even though she now has plenty of fans, not everyone likes her. Paige Spiranac started to play golf because she liked the sport. However, a lot of people have gotten angry because of her Instagram posts and outfits. According to them, she was deviating from the golf dress code and tradition.
A Role Model
It is her goal to become a good role model to young women all over the world. Paige wants to feel welcome in a male-dominated sport and encourage other women to join in on the fun. She hopes to change the current golf demographic, which is dominated by white men.
She Was In Sports Illustrated
Paige also had the chance to appear in Sports Illustrated magazine. In 2018, she graced the cover of this famous magazine. Unlike other female athletes, she had her sports equipment with her for the shoot!
