They could use the metal because there were numerous businesses that produced precision machinery nearby. For every ton of trash they exposed, they found 1,890 kg of gold!

The sewers are actually a more opulent and valuable shelter than we might originally think. A UK sewer expert named Aaron Large found four pricey watches in the country’s drains in 2012. Not just any wristwatch, but an 18-karat gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph for $21,000. Not long after that, a second Rolex and two other expensive things were also found. The truth is that only one of the timepieces was truly given back to its rightful owner; the other three were found to be fakes. Aaron’s manager was quite pleased with his work.
