In 2009, the History Channel first began airing Pawn Stars. It has only acquired more and more supporters ever since! For one of the stars on the show, however, it seems like things have been a little rough. In Chumlee’s personal and public matters, what exactly is happening?
The Star Of The Show
The tv series, based in Las Vegas, owes its unbelievable excellence to the humorous members of the cast. We have to commend, among them, Austin Lee “Chumlee” Russell! This man is full of life and appears to know, when the cameras are rolling or not, how to make everyone chuckle.
Not The Best Student In High School
Before we could even dig a bit deeper into this tale, firstly, you must understand that he never had the nicest childhood ever. Chumlee is just not a very great student, to be precise. In school, he didn’t really do quite well.
He Never Graduated
He did tend to pay other students to complete the schoolwork for him when he was a high school student. We are ready to guess that when they learned that he chose to drop out, it did not come as a surprise to anybody.
The Story Behind It
Then there is a concern regarding his nickname, aside from his academic problems. Even though Chumlee may sound adorable to our ears, for amusing explanations, Russell did not get the nickname.
Cute Nickname But Cruel Intentions
As a relation to a character from Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales, a cartoon from the 60s, people have started calling him that. In the tv series, Chumley was the name of the stout walrus. Yikes, this must hurt.
Friends From Childhood
It must have been a great thing that Russell had a nice childhood friend that he has always been able to depend on. We are speaking of none other than Corey Harrison, who later on in life did end up being his Pawn Stars co-star.
A Friendship With Employment Benefits
They also used to hang out with Rick, Corey’s dad, at just the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. There was the main advantage that happened to come with their relationship. Among several other things, when he became 21 years old, Chumlee started working there on a full-time basis.
Not What He Expected
Although it takes a certain precision to work at a pawn shop, there is also no avoiding the fact that most of it usually includes doing menial work. It’s definitely not the first thing when you think of a glamorous career that would come to people’s minds.
Five Short Years Later
Even after this, five years after starting to work at Gold & Silver, Chumlee did find himself at the front of the camera as well as on the small screen. We have a feeling that far more than having to work at the pawnshop, he preferred to work on TV.
Can’t Help It
Chumlee often began to fall into the comedy relief type of role as the show gained more fame and wealth with each passing month. He was a man who always cracked jokes and made his co-stars and the audience laugh.
Not The Best Buys
In the objects he liked to target, his involvement in video games, rap, sneakers, and pinball often reveals. Even though we would concur that they’re very interesting objects, they have not translated into good financial decision making for the company. Uh, oops.
Making Many Mistakes
Chumlee was likely to make quite a number of stupid mistakes, although before the show even began filming, this allegedly also happened. He put a customer’s stand-up bass against a shelf once. Much to the horror of everybody, it fell and broke into parts. Evidently, an eye-popping $20,000 could have been worth it!
Popularity For His Mishaps
He liked to tease the rest of the cast members for mishaps like that one. You will also be able to see that this dynamic is a recurring pattern for Pawn Stars if you ever watch the series. It was also what managed to make Russell a fan favorite.
Quite The Popular Guy
In the beginning, apparently, he earned so much attention that when the whole team made public appearances, he had to bring a bodyguard. Huh. Whoa. That’s all the evidence we need that he made it big!
Enjoying The Fame
Chumlee felt pretty good about all of the interest he was obtaining in the beginning. He even decided to launch his own line of personalized merchandise together with his personal assistant. Sure enough, the other members of the cast did the same thing.
The significant thing here, however, is that neither of them ever sold as many as Chumlee appears to have done. If you’re the most widely known team member, this is what it’s like! More recently, on the Vegas strip, he also decided to open a candy shop!
Quite The Private Person
Chumlee wasn’t really precisely the type to speak about just how much he earned, that being said. Despite this, it is public knowledge that when he sold half of his shares in Gold & Silver to Rick Harrison back in 2010, he received $155,000.
Surprisingly Business Minded
He did this in order to steer his focus to merchandising. Obviously, his public image as a bumbler is not completely true. After all, the guy does have a trace of business sense, undoubtedly!
Time To Make A Change
Russell also began showing a desire to improve himself in many other aspects, in addition to this. There was something happening to Chumlee’s father just two weeks before Pawn Stars went on air that would change life as he knew it.
A Healthier Lifestyle
He succumbed to pancreatic cancer at the age of 54 back in 2009. Russell was not exactly the fittest person, as we could all see. The horrific death of his father compelled him to eat healthier, start exercising more, and live a healthier way of life.
The Mind And Soul
Chumlee started to eat healthier food and added exercise to his daily routine. By hitting the gym and practicing yoga, he primarily gets his blood flowing. He’s also a big fan of meditation and mindfulness, which would be mind-and-soul therapy.
Taking The Necessary Steps
Chumlee had a serious plan about how this objective could be achieved. Six days per week, he started dropping out of the gym, sipping fruit smoothies in the early hours, and having to cut out red meat from his eating habits. You probably wouldn’t believe the outcomes.
An impressive transformation resulted from this intense health plan. If you are considering taking better care of yourself, it could be time to follow in his footsteps!
Healthy And Happy
Between the years 2012 and 2013, Chumlee’s remarkable transformation took place. There was a lot of weight he was able to drop. You won’t believe the findings. We ourselves were astounded!
A Major Change
He lost 75 pounds if you really want to be particular! We’re happy to say that he ends up looking not only healthier but happier as well! You don’t agree? This major modification really seems to have ended up turning Chumlee’s life around.
Turning His Life Around
After his weight loss, perhaps the most exciting thing for Chum was not that he could fit in the old clothes, but also something entirely different. Finally, he was finally able to ride a hovercraft that was formerly too heavy to go on! For a start, this was a major feat.
He also began dating Tanya Hyjazi, his long-term girlfriend. She works at the STACK Restaurant & Bar at the Mirage Casino as a chef. Nice to go, Chumlee! It seems that he is not only changing his eating habits but also building new relationships and strengthening them!
As Chumlee popped the question and put a massive ring on Tanya’s finger, the couple was recently engaged! They celebrated at the Royal Hawaiian Resort in Waikiki and afterward returned to the Andiamo Italian Steakhouse with acquaintances in Las Vegas.
The Whole Gang
During the celebration, the wonderful pair was encircled by their family and friends. This included the co-stars as well as great mates of Chumlee’s Pawn Stars, Corey Harrison, and his dad, Rick Harrison.
Where Things Went Wrong
Who would have ever thought things could all go wrong for Chumlee, with all of these in mind? In March 2016, the very first hint of trouble started happening. What might that be?
All Charges Were Dropped
This was the moment when he was mentioned in a sexual assault investigation as a suspect. The charges were made by some other shop worker. Although owing to lack of evidence, it was quickly dropped.
Just The Beginning
Although Chumlee ended this case well, it would not be the last of his legal problems. It seemed as though since he was charged once again, Chumlee could not stay out of hot water.
The Results Of A Police Raid
This time, the investigation involved invading his residence, leading to more troubles. With regard to the case at hand, the authorities found nothing valuable, but they found other stuff in his ownership.
Illegal Substances Abound
In his home, the police discovered crystal meth, marijuana, and a gun. These things, to say the least, provided the police with sufficient reason for keeping an eye on the reality tv personality.
Even More Incriminating Things
When a second raid was carried out by the police, even more, contraband items turned up! They discovered 11 firearms to be specific. If all of them have been registered, there would’ve been no major issue here. Unfortunately, there were only four.
Aside from this one, further drugs and even compelling evidence of cocaine consumption were also found by the police. To find out what actually occurred, next does not take a genius. He was jailed, as you’ve suspected.
At The Very Least
Our adored Chumlee discovered himself encountering 20 separate felony counts after several months. Yikes. This is not much of a comfort, but the court did not discover any significant evidence at the very least.
There was no illegal use of the firearms that they discovered in Chumlee’s complete control. It would otherwise have been far worse for the personality of television. For Chum, at least one thing went well!
Justice Being Served
In the end, Chumlee admitted guilt to an attempted misdemeanor, possession of drugs, and possession of illegal weapons. To avoid having any jail time, he did this. For one year, he was put on probation.
The Worst Is Behind Him
During this period, if Chumlee behaves properly, only the misdemeanor charge will appear on his record. He does have to attend counseling, aside from all of this, although this sounds reasonable enough anyway.
A Rough Patch
It starts to sound like he’s been in his direction out of a poor luck spree. Do you think the controversy is going to be the end of his professional life? It seems that the answer is ‘no,’ but inevitably, only time can tell.
A Hard Year
Chumlee opened up to fans about what he was dealing with in a follow-up interview at the end of 2016. The reality television star recognized how harsh the same year had been for him.
Thanking His Supporters
More importantly, during such a difficult time, Chumlee expressed his appreciation to his fans for their support. He is not sure he would have gotten through it at all without their kind, inspiring, supportive messages.
He also snapped this image with the caption on Instagram and uploaded it, saying, “I just wanted to give a quick shout-out to all my amazing fans that come and see me daily at @chums_candy – Thank you all for all the amazing love you show me.”
The Fate Of Pawn Stars
But what was going on with Pawn Stars? There’d been plenty of wishful thinking at the time about the status of the show. Was it about to be discontinued or renewed?
Back To Normal
We’re happy to say, and also to the relief of the fans, the reality TV series has proceeded to air! And yes, there’s still Chumlee involved. Let’s all keep hoping that in no time, things will go back to usual for him! His suspended sentence is, after all, due to a soon end.
We’ll let you know, though, that when Chumlee was in trouble with the law, Pawn Stars took a hiatus. The 36-year-old concentrated during this time on helping to improve himself, both mentally and physically. This would be the greatest he could have accomplished for himself, we personally believe!
The tv series itself does incredible things as well! Lately, Pawn Stars celebrated their 500th episode! Chumlee posted this image with the caption on his Instagram, “Come celebrate our 500th episode Monday night on History [channel]. This is something we could not have done without you!!!! Thank you!!!”.
Thanks To Chumlee
Without Chumlee, the excellence of Pawn Stars would not have been achievable. One of the primary reasons audiences keep on coming back for more is his life public persona and kind heart!
